27th Sunday in Ordinary Time
Feast of the Holy Rosary
Fr. Patrick Payton once said: “A family that prays together, stays together. “ Being the founder of Family Rosary Crusade, the prayer he meant in this classic line is no other than the recitation of the Rosary. It may sound cliché at first but personally, I can say that it is indeed a powerful prayer for the family. I remember how my parents taught me the Rosary.
I learned it as a “family prayer.” I believe that my family has survived a lot of storms because we do not forget to pray together. Today’s Gospel speaks about the sanctity of marriage and family. One of the secrets of lasting and fulfilling marriage is the act of praying together. In marriage, husband and wife promise each other something that they cannot fulfill by themselves alone, namely, perfect happiness. Left by their own strength, we are bound to failure or meaninglessness. So when couples pray, they acknowledge before God that He called them together as family—a good work God Himself begun in their lives which would eventually realize completion in the day of Jesus Christ (Phil. 1:6).
